A murmuration is when a flock of birds moves together in a coordinated way. No one bird leads. Instead, they self-organize, sharing information and cooperating mid-flight. For us, the editors, the movement is more than visually arresting. It's a romantic example, an aspiration of how individuals can move together.

Murmuration is, in its own small way, an attempt to participate in this style of coordination. Through written work focused on solidarity and struggle in the Pacific Northwest, we are practicing a belief that a common project can help cut through the isolation and fragmentation many of us associate with digital space. We hope to bring political struggles into clear view, circulating literary works widely and tying together, in something you can hold, some of the fights, passions, and poetry of the region.

ISO Contributors for Issue #2!

Murmuration is a way for us to circulate lively works of fiction and non-fiction, and to publish writers attentive to working class self-organization. Contributors are encouraged to critically assess the place and moment we live in, chart community examples of direct action, and bring new stories and literary works to a wide audience in the Pacific Northwest.

Pitch us your ideas for thoughtful essays on regional issues, original reporting on politics and culture, or fiction, art and poetry. We are especially interested in working with writers who are open to an engaged, constructive, and collaborative editorial style. Let's make the piece shine together!
